Several specially strengthened barges are available for transporting rock armour with individual weights up to 50 tonnes. The barges are crewed by an experienced team with a well tested and proven degree of expertise gained over the last 14 years working in this demanding area.
Our barges are mainly used for the supply of rocks to hydraulic engineering projects all over coastal Europe. The larger barges are towed to their destination with tugs and will normally be anchored offshore close to the delivery point. At this location the rocks will be transhipped to our smaller barge (Charlie Rock) for transfer to the foreshore. At the foreshore the rocks are discharged using the on-board wheel loaders. By using the tidal range all material is left in a retrievable position for the contractor. Where practical and possible the main barges do port to port.
