The Larvik quarries are situated on the south-east coast of Norway. The quarries primal production stream is the production of Dimension Stone which gives a waste / by product that is ideal for use in the production of armourstone. Larvik is the only dedicated rock armour quarry in Europe and has been in operation for over 100 years. Only 10 % of the stone is used for decorative stones (under the trade names of “Larvikite" and “Blue Pearl”).

Due to the intrinsic properties of the rock, especially durability, the rock is ideally suited to use in hydraulic engineering. Stema Shipping have a sole agency agreement with the quarries for the usage of the rock armour.

The rock is transported using flat top pontoons with up to 25,500-tonne capacities from our dedicated quay facility in Svartebukt to the destination point.
