MibauStema achieves with NorskStein Jelsa first CSC certification issued in Norway

Mibau Stema Group, one of the largest aggregate suppliers in Northern Europe and part of HeidelbergMaterials, recently awarded CSC certificate in Bronze for its plant NorskStein Jelsa in Norway. It is the first CSC certification issued in Norway.

“We have a clear commitment to helping build a better, sustainable future. Therefore, we are constantly working on making our processes more sustainable. We are very proud to be awarded with the first CSC certificate Bronze in Norway and will with our great teamwork in the upcoming years to achieve the next level of certification”, says Martin Rapp, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Mibau Stema Group.

Responsible sourcing certification - what is it ?

The Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) is operating a global responsible sourcing certification system which is designed to help concrete, cement and aggregate companies obtain insight in the level to which a company operates in an environmentally, socially and economically responsible way.

1st Loading mv STARNES

After the safe passage from the Chinese shipyard, the newbuilding mv STARNES arrived Jelsa, where the new flagg ship of Mibau Stema Group was loaded with app 38,000 tons of Aggregates for the terminal in Aabenraa (Denmark). Please find a short video here.

Delivery of MV Starnes

MV Starnes, the first of two CSL-Hartmann joint venture ships built at Chengxi Shipyard was successfully delivered on August 10, 2020. After a crew change in Manila Mibau/Stema expect the vessel to be in Jelsa for the first loading end of September. Welcome to our fleet!

… a new ship will come!

Cadenberge, Germany and Aabenraa, Denmark, May 25, 2018 – Mibau Stema Group has signed a long term charter for the newbuilding 40,000 DWT gravity self-unloading vessel ordered by Hartmann family and The CSL Group for delivery in 2020.

Mibau Stema Group, the leading supplier of exported aggregates for the construction building industry in Europe, is looking forward to welcoming the vessel, that will enter into the pool of gravity self-unloading vessels already operated in their European trades. 

The newbuilding will be built according to the newest technical expertise and with energy-efficient and ecological standards such as Ballast Water Treatment System and Scrubber-technology.

Award for Norsk Stein

Norsk Stein AS was selected as the best company in the municipality of Suldal in 2016. The jury placed particular emphasis on the areas of development, growth and innovation. Norsk Stein has particularly distinguished itself in recent years.

Cuxhaven "welcomes" the 10-millionth tonnes …

During a management-meeting on 15 December 2016 mv "Fitnes" discharged the 10-millionth tonnes of aggregates, produced in our quarry Jelsa this year. Part of the management-tema has been at the site in Cuxhaven (1st left, Martin Johansen, Managing Director Stema Shipping (UK) Ltd.)

Since the beginning of October the former HeidelbergCement AG quarries, Tau and Dirdal, have become further production sites of our production company Norsk Stein A/S. We heartily welcome 60 new employees.

Port prize for 2016 awarded to Mibau Baustoffhandel at the port of Kiel

Mibau Baustoffhandel GmbH has been selected as this year’s winner of the port prize in a tribute to many years of excellent relations between the Mibau Baustoffhandel and the Port of Kiel, especially in bulk handling. The award ceremony will take place on 8 September 2016 at the traditional Sprottenback event.

First Open Day at Jelsa quarry

Norsk Stein’s Open Day on 21 May 2016 was met with eager interest with quarry tours, visits the labs and control rooms, film screenings, a chance to take a seat on the big dumper trucks and loaders for a full insight into the production processes. Our younger visitors had an opportunity to dredge and screen to their heart’s content on dredgers provided for the event. We naturally provided food and drinks at the event.

We haven’t seen a major accident for more than 850 days – a result of increased safety awareness training, near-miss reporting and best practices.

Gauging customer satisfaction

Mibau will be launching a customer satisfaction survey in a customer excellence programme, which will involve electronic questionnaires sent to our customers with feedback calls for evaluation in October.

Time to say good bye...

We have sold MS Stones to the Canada Steamship Lines Group (CSL) for future use in Australia. It was a nostalgic moment for us, as MS Stones was the first of a series of self-unloading vessels built at the Sietas shipward specifically to the specifications of the Mibau-Stema Group in 2001. MV Stones always served reliably on 906 voyages carrying around twenty-three million tonnes of stone for the Mibau-Stema Group – a real success story.

Additional resources for Mibau-Stema at the Norwegian quarry

Norsk Stein has secured additional mining rights at the quarry in Jelsa for quantities of around 300 million tonnes, equivalent to around thirty years, with the possibility of extending this capacity further.

Mibau-Stema fleet retrofitted for sustainability

The Mibau-Stema Group has decided to install flue gas scrubbers to keep a clean environmental profile and still run on heavy oil – this solution makes the best business sense with 90% of the fleet operating in the SECA (Sulphur Emission Control Area), where more stringent limits on exhaust emissions have been in force since 1 January 2015.

Port terminal deepening in Bremen and Stade

After a successful deepening project, we will be looking forward to using these two port locations regardless of tide, even with our larger self-unloading vessels. This will cut costs.
